Plastic products are pervasive in our lives. Plastic products, plastic tableware, plastic cups, plastic bottles, etc. are used for eating and drinking. However, many people always have a concern about plastics, such as plasticizers, etc., and feel unsafe. What are the commonly used plastics in food? Is it safe?

Look at the numbers, know the plastic

If you pay attention, you will see that many plastic items have a triangular symbol consisting of three clockwise arrows on the bottom or side, with a number in the middle of the symbol, usually numbers 1 through 7. These numbers are actually the identity numbers of the plastics, and each number represents a different component. This symbol, called the Resin Identification Code, was first established by the American Plastics Industry Association and is currently used worldwide. According to the code in the middle of this logo, you can know what this plastic is.

"No. 1" - PET (polyethylene terephthalate).
"No. 2" - HDPE (High Density Polyethylene).
"No. 3" - PVC (polyvinyl chloride).
"No. 4" - LDPE (low density polyethylene).
"No. 5" - PP (polypropylene).
"No. 6" - PS (polystyrene).
"No. 7" - all types except 1-6, including PC (polycarbonate), PLA (polylactic acid), PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate), melamine and others.
